Come down to downtown Calumet and get in the holiday spirit. Enjoy the tree lighting ceremony and a visit with Santa at the Vertin Gallery. There will be live music and carolers walking around and it is also First Friday so many of the downtown shops will be open late for shopping and art galleries with new artists’ work.

Special yoga workshop just for cross country skiers. Focusing on stretching and strengthening the muscles used in cross country skiing so you can improve your flexibility and balance. Try it out! Adding yoga to your routine can bring extra enjoyment to your winter season on the trails.
In the upper level of the Swedetown Chalet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th. Fee is $10 and preregistration is required. No previous yoga experience is needed. Bring a mat, blanket or floor pad to the session.

Come out to the Orpheum Theater & Studio Pizza to support the Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids trails! The money raised will be used for maintenance and building of the bridges in the gorgeous Swedetown Creek gorge. Featured music: Uncle Floyd (a Pink Floyd cover band) and Wingnuts with the singing Sheriff Ron Lahti.

Visit Santa at Rowe Furniture 11am-1pm, enjoy live music by the Clown Band, and have fun at a Copper Dog sponsored event and enjoy dog sled rides at Agassiz Park with free hot dogs, coffee and hot cocoa at Pavilion.
The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club is hosting a XC Ski Waxing Clinic this Saturday, December 12th from 1:00 to 2:00 in the afternoon. The clinic is free and open to anyone who wants to learn about waxing cross country skis.

January 16, 1 pm – Annual Snowshoe Hike at Black Creek Nature Sanctuary
Meet at parking area at the trailhead along Sedar Bay Road. Join stewards Jill and Pete for a 3.5 mile hike through a varied forest landscape to a lovely lagoon and a dramatic opening onto Lake Superior. Peter and Jill invite participants to their home nearby for warming and refreshments afterwards. Dress for the weather and bring water, snacks, and snowshoes.
The hike will be postponed if the weather is extreme. Contact the Michigan Nature Association to get updates.
Getting there: From US-41 on the north end of Calumet, turn west onto M-203, and travel about 1.25 miles to Tamarack Waterworks Road and turn right. Travel 2.5 miles on Tamarack Waterworks Road to Sedar Bay Road and turn right again. Follow Sedar Bay Road approximately 2.5 miles until reaching the Black Creek trailhead sign on the right, about 0.2 miles from the end of the public road.
