Thirty six years ago, our son Eric was born with cerebral palsy. When he was small, I pulled him around in a standard Burly trailer and he loved it! Eric is now 110 lbs, and I’m 65 years old. We also live about 450 feet in elevation below our workplace and shopping, etc. It just became too difficult for me to pull him around-and so for many years, biking was not in the picture. Along came high quality E-Bikes- but Eric and standard trailers are not a match. Eric is severely affected– he cannot support himself in any manner.
There’s a company in Ontario that makes WIKE brand trailers for handicapped individuals and we looked into it. OK, now we’ve got some possibilities! I now own a Crossrip + and Eric and our family have put on about a thousand miles in the past year. When you’re as afflicted as Eric and unable to move much, being out and about is great, and the best part of all of our rides is…BUMPS! Side-of-the-road rumble strips are the best thing EVER! It’s a lot of fun to hear the laughing going on behind me; it just never gets old! The best two things I’ve purchased in the last few years are Eric’s WIKE trailer and my Trek Crossrip+!
