“The reason you stop is because you’re uncomfortable” – This quote is simple and logical, and it still caught me by surprise.
If you’ve made a New Year’s fitness resolution, remember that there are days for easy fun, and days that are just plain uncomfortable. Now I’m not talking about cold toes and blisters uncomfortable. What I mean, is slogging through a never ending up hill climb, leaning out over my ski and testing my balance ’till it fails. These kinds of things can be disheartening. However, after thinking over the statement, “The reason you stop is because you’re uncomfortable”, these failures and struggles can be viewed differently. They show resolve.
Just because you’re uncomfortable doesn’t mean you have to stop, it doesn’t mean you’re not getting better, and no matter how good you get at your sport, you will always be able to push yourself into a less than comfortable state.
So when you catch yourself grumbling, starting to breathe hard, and the going isn’t quite as easy as you’d like, congratulate yourself. The ups and downs are all part of the fun.
