This weekend there will be no shortage of things to do with two festivals, each bringing our community together in different ways.
Bridgefest
The annual Bridgefest will take place on the waterfront as always, featuring seafood, vendors, fireworks, and at the center – what connects the Copper Isle to the rest of the U.P. – the Portage Lift Bridge.
Bike Boulevard Dedication
While our community gets together for Bridgefest, we will also be assembling for the dedication for the new Bike Boulevard in Houghton made possible by BIKE! Bike Initiative Keweenaw and the City of Houghton.
The dedication will be at Kestner Park at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday (June 17). The dedication ride will start at 11:00 a.m. exiting Kestner Park thru the tunnel and onto West Houghton Ave.
The Bike Boulevard promotes a safer way for cyclists to ride through Houghton from east-to-west using a new route on Houghton Ave. This is to mitigate traffic on Montezuma Ave. and will hopefully lead to safer travels for both cyclists and motorists.
Keweenaw Tread Fest
Also taking place this weekend will be the much-anticipated Keweenaw Tread Fest. The Keweenaw Tread Fest is a realatively new mountain bike race that takes place on the Michigan Tech Trails and features a 1-lap and 2-lap race clocking in at ~12 and ~25 miles respectively. Keweenaw Tread Fest will also feature youth events. Visit their Facebook page facebook.com/KeweenawTreadFest/ for the full schedule of events.
We hope to see you out and about this weekend!
