The big names were there. The Wells brothers (Todd and Troy), Jeremiah Bishop, Geoff Kabush, last year’s winner Brian Matter, Keweenaw’s top rider Pete Karinen and most all of the top pros from across the country. When all was said and done, Matter finished 7th, with Troy Wells winning in a sprint finish over Bishop in 1:36:13. Pete had a great race, finishing 3 minutes and 17 seconds behind the winner! That was good for 21st place in the Pro category and 2nd for U.P. entrants. Tyler Gauthier of Marquette out sprinted Pete at the line by one second for 20th place.
In the age group categories, MTU student and CCS employee Alex Schultz won by 47 seconds in 1:49:41, besting 81 other racers in the 19 to 24 age group.
Congratulations guys!
