This season, with everything going on in the world, we are desperate to enjoy the outdoors. However, conditions at this time of year can be tough to interpret. While we are still experiencing snow and cold temperatures, we also have sunny days with highs above freezing.
Every once in a while, the perfect blend of snow, melt, and freezing temperatures align to create amazing fat biking conditions. When our incredible, deep snow base becomes infused with rainwater or melt from a warm day and then re-freezes—we get crust.
Crust conditions are a fat biker’s dream. The crust creates a firm but grippy go-anywhere riding surface so you can ride places you just can’t in the summer.
Crust conditions like this are elusive and don’t happen every winter. But when they do, it’s like no other riding.
Keep an eye out for crust riding this “spring.”
