Yes, I’m sure most of you would rather I’d be talking about april biking, but realistically that is not going to be real soon. Skiing at warmer temps. is generally problematic waxing, but there are a few things to consider. First, there’s No-Wax Skis. Obviously the easiest solution, but there’s also Klister waxes or “grip tape”. Both can give you great results. If you’ve heard stories of klister getting on everything– well, it can. Stop by the shop and I can give you some pointers to reduce that possibility. Think of Grip Tape as an almost universal grip wax. You can get plenty of grip in wet snow (new or old) and it will last for 100 or 200 Kms.! It can be too grippy in very cold new snow, but that is generally not what we’re up against in April. The 3rd solution is Skate Skiing! You don’t worry about getting grip And you get great glide! Now is a good time to try it if you haven’t yet, because the glide is good, and when you have to stop and rest– you can without getting too cold right away. We rent skating skis if you don’t have any, so give it a try! Don’t let this weather drive you indoors, just know how to deal with it. As a philosopher once said “Is it not better to use one tube of klister than to curse the snowfall?” (Apparently that was before grip tape or skating.)
